2026 Compensation Survey Now Open to All In-House Lawyers in Canada

October 23, 2026

The 2026 Canadian In-House Counsel Compensation & Benefits Survey is now open and runs until November 25.

CBA In-House Lawyers and The Counsel Network, a Caldwell company, have run this survey every two years since 2009. It was the first survey of its kind in Canada, and Bramm Research conducts it.

Why it matters

What does the market actually pay in-house lawyers? Lawyers weighing an offer or making the case for a raise rely on this survey for the answer. So do general counsel benchmarking their teams and HR professionals designing roles.

Because the survey has run consistently since 2009, its results can be compared across more than 15 years. That gives the profession a clear view of how in-house compensation has moved over time.

The results are only as accurate as the responses behind them. Each completed survey sharpens the data by region, sector, role and organization size, so the numbers reflect each part of the market more precisely.

How to take part

The survey is open to all in-house lawyers in Canada, whether or not they are CBA members. It takes about 20 minutes, and all responses are confidential and reported only in aggregate.

Look for an email from Bramm Research with your unique survey code. If you haven’t received one, email cbainhouse@cbainhouse.org.

Survey codes are personal and can’t be forwarded. If a colleague would like to take part, ask them to email cbainhouse@cbainhouse.org and we’ll send them their own link.

Results

Results of the 2026 survey will be published early in 2027. Past reports are available on the CBA In-House Lawyers Surveys page.
