Formerly the Canadian Corporate Counsel Association (CCCA), CBA In-House Lawyers is the only legal association devoted entirely to in-house lawyers in Canada. In partnership with the Canadian Bar Association, we serve more than 5,000 in-house professionals across every province, territory, sector and industry.

We welcome in-house lawyers from all organizational settings, including public and private companies, not-for-profits, associations, Crown corporations, municipalities, hospitals, post-secondary institutions, and school boards. Our members also include lawyers working within federal and provincial governments, as well as those serving government-created agencies, boards, commissions and regulatory bodies. Associate members from law firms and related organizations further enrich our educational programs and events.

No matter your industry, tenure, or background — you belong here. CBA In-House Lawyers is proud to be inclusive and welcoming of all in-house lawyers. We are committed to equity and to ensuring that members from equity-deserving communities feel seen, supported, and represented.

What we offer members

We are Canada’s home for in-house lawyers. In collaboration with the Canadian Bar Association, we:

  • Inform, connect and be the voice of the nation’s in-house lawyers
  • Provide the advice, knowledge and information our members need to maximize their value to their organizations
  • Create opportunities for members to share ideas and forge important domestic and global relationships
  • Work with other Branches and Committees of the Canadian Bar Association on matters of mutual concern
  • Liaise with in-house counsel organizations in other jurisdictions to promote CBA In-House Lawyers and CBA membership

As your national home for in-house counsel, we’re here to make sure you’re never alone in navigating the legal, strategic and leadership challenges that come with the role.

Our History

Founded in 1988 as the Canadian Corporate Counsel Association (CCCA), CBA In-House Lawyers grew out of a national movement among in-house counsel seeking peer connection, tailored professional development, and a dedicated voice within the legal profession. Following a landmark 1986 conference that brought together more than 350 in-house lawyers from across Canada, the CCCA was established as a Conference of the Canadian Bar Association.

In 2025, we adopted the name CBA In-House Lawyers to better reflect our partnership with the CBA and the breadth of today’s in-house community.
